The CCAE Men’s Club was formed in 1971 winning its first premiership in 1972, while the Women’s Club was formed in 1973 and immediately won its first premiership.  By the end of the 1970s, the Women had grown to 7 teams while the Men had 4 teams.  In 1979 the Women made their first foray into First Grade while the Men joined them in 1981.  Sadly neither Club remained in the top grade for long.  CCAE became UC in 1990 and the Clubs became the Unicorns.  That same year saw the Women return to First Grade this time remaining there to today.  The Men joined them briefly in 1991, going up and down over the next few years before finally conceding our place in 1997.

In 1992 the Women won their inaugural First Grade title in 1992, returning to the winner’s circle in 1994.

The two Clubs merged in 1996 to form the University of Canberra Hockey Club and became the Devils.

The club has had much success since then and highlights include the CL1 Women record winning run of 2007-2011 premierships – a feat that no other club has repeated. The CL2 Men winning the Premiership in 2006, their highest premiership win since the 1980’s. The Midweek team three-peat from 2014-2016, plus many other premierships along the way.
